MISS Hermione Jean Granger is the only child of two Muggle dentists. Hermione, like most other magical children from Muggle households, did not know about Hogwarts or the existence of witches and wizards until she received her acceptance letter from Hogwarts. It is because of this Muggle background that wizards who favor pureblood wizards (such as the Malfoy family) treat Hermione with disdain, referring to her as a "mudblood."
